為省千萬年租　英國向日本退租使館用地

【於慶中／綜合外電報導】位於日本東京皇居西側的英國駐日大使館，英國政府為了節省地租，決定將佔地總面積約兩成的大使館用地交還日本政府，日本政府因此豁免英國大使館每年的地租，估計每年可省下約日幣8129萬元(約台幣2335萬元)。

根據《日本新聞網》的報導，早在明治5年(西元1872年)，英國政府就以租用的方式，借用了英國駐日本大使館的土地，總面積為3.5萬平方公尺，英國政府每年須向日本政府支付地租，2013年度的租金是8129萬日圓。

英國政府為了減少財政支出，向日本政府建議，將兩成(約7000平方公尺)的土地歸還給日本政府，變相「割地」，而日本政府將剩下的八成的土地權益交給英國政府，這樣英國就不用再繳交租金，這個建議已獲日方接納。
