arstechnica.com報導，波士頓大學基金會2日在美國麻州地方法院遞狀控告蘋果(Apple Inc.)、指稱其iPhone 5、iPad、MacBook Air(MBA)等產品涉嫌侵權。波大在兩個月前也對亞馬遜(Amazon.com)提出侵權官司、指稱其Kindle Paperwhite電子書閱讀器、Kindle Fire平板涉嫌侵權。此外，今年3月波大也指控三星電子產品所採用的特定LED零件侵犯其智慧財產權。上述官司主要是源自於波大教授Theodore Moustakas所提出的美國專利字號「5,686,738」：高絕緣單晶氮化鎵薄膜(Highly insulating monocrystalline gallium nitride thin films)。

波大表示，Kindle Paperwhite電子書閱讀器、Kindle Fire平板是因為採用首爾半導體(Seoul Semiconductor)所生產的LED而侵犯了專利權。先前也被波大點名侵權的晶電(2448)已在今年5月要求美國專利暨商標局檢視「5,686,738」專利內容(註：預計在2015年1月失效)。

appleinsider.com報導，專家指出，如果波大能夠證明Moustakas的確有意將其專利商業化的話，蘋果的和解金可能高達7,500萬美元。
